The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, was with the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella to represent Cameroon at the ninth session of the joint mixed commission between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea on reinforcing their bilateral ties. The three day session from August 7 to 9, 2024 in La Paz, ended with recommendations and resolutions for the interest of both countries. Attending the session on the Equatorial Guinean site was Simeón Oyono Esono -Minister of International Cooperation, leading his country’s delegation. Both parties agreed to step up partnership in trade, consular affairs, education, communication, health, security and culture. Follow up sessions have been planned to realize the decisions taken.
Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea share a long border where the movement of people and goods are sometimes perturbed which has threatened friendliness. Delegates at the ninth joint session examined this issue with the resolution to urge citizens to respect the internal rules and regulations governing both countries. They have also resolved to beef up cooperation between local administrative and security officials along the border. The delegation from Cameroon assured Cameroonians in Equatorial Guinea of President Paul Biya’s duty to continually protect them. The resolutions drafted at the ninth mixed joint commission would be presented to President Paul Biya of Cameroon and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea.
